Muscle Cars World fans, here’s a press release about the recent Shelby American‘s announcement that the company will donate and install a 2014 Shelby GT500 Super Snake performance package to raise funds for Cancer research:
Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), has announced they will donate and install a 2014 Shelby GT500 Super Snake体育盘口 performance package to be auctioned off during the 40th Anniversary of the famous Cattle Baron’s Ball to raise funds for cancer research through the American Cancer Society. This year’s highly-anticipated and extravagant Cattle Baron’s Ball will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the legendary Southfork Ranch in Parker, Texas, just north of Dallas.
“Supporting philanthropies is a core value that Carroll ingrained into Shelby American’s DNA over the past five decades,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Since one of this year’s Cattle Baron’s Ball co-chairs, Brooke Shelby, is the wife of Carroll’s eldest grandson, Aaron, the event is a perfect opportunity to leverage a new Shelby GT500 Super Snake to raise funds for cancer research.”
Over the past 40 years, through ticket sales and auction items, the western-themed Cattle Baron’s Ball has raised more than $50 million; it has grown to be the largest single-night fundraiser for cancer research.
This year’s ball is expected to see 3,500 socialites flock to the 300 acre grand Texas ranch for an evening of mouthwatering fare, western dancing, carnival games and serenity under the stars. Hello, Muscle Cars World fans, do you remember back in January, during a Barret-Jackson auction event when Rick Hendrick, the NASCAR team owner, paid no less than $1.1 million for the very first production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe?
Well, this car has finally reached its owner – Rick Hendrick, just five days after GM began delivering its brand new sportscar. And we think that this news is worthy, because not every day VIN № 0001 costs more than a million. The proceeds from the sale went to the Detroit College for Creative Studies, while Hendrick got to pick out the colors in advance, and, according to CarBuzz, he went for a black body with red interior. But wait, there’s more: GM decided to surprise Rick and gave him a second 2014 Corvette, VIN #0002, in red with a red interior. Read more!
Built in only six units, the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe is a rare sight. Especially in Europe, where only one of them, chassis number CSX2300, is said to be kept. It was built for auto racing, specifically to take on Ferrari in the GT class. Just six original Daytona coupes were built between 1964 and 1965, and this is one of them. Some say that is the only Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe in Europe.
The drivers Andre Simon and Jo Schlesser drove this coupe at the very tough Nurburgring race track. The car finished 3rd in the GT III category, and 12th overall. After the race, this white coupe was returned to Alan Mann Racing in England where it was repainted in the official Guardsman Blue metallic and white stripe of the 1965 Shelby American team.
What’s more, this exact version was owned by Carroll Shelby himself until 2000, when it was auctioned off by RM Auctions on on August 19, 2000 for no less than $4.4 million, probably an American record at the time. For all Muscle Cars World fans who didn’t hear the news, Chevrolet began shipping体育盘口 2014 Corvette Stingray on 2013-09-18.
“It’s an amazing sight to see the transporters filled with Stingrays heading to customers in all corners of the country,” said Dave Tatman, plant manager of General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly plant. “The pride at Bowling Green is overwhelming and it shows in the tremendous quality and attention to detail going into each one of these new Corvettes.”
Bowling Green Assembly has produced approximately 1,000 Corvette Stingrays for customer deliveries. Most of these vehicles are expected to be delivered to dealers within the next few weeks. To expedite delivery, vehicles may be shipped out of build sequence, which is a normal part of any new vehicle launch.
The Bowling Green facility underwent a $131-million upgrade to support production of the Corvette Stingray, including approximately $52 million for a new body shop to manufacture the car’s all-new aluminum frame in-house for the first time.
The lightweight aluminum frame is the foundation for the most powerful standard Corvette ever, with an SAE-certified 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 460 lb-ft of torque (624 Nm) – and 460 horsepower (343 kW) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) with the available performance exhaust system. It is also the most capable standard Corvette ever, with Z51-equipped models able to sprint from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds, run the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 119 mph, achieve 1.03g in cornering grip and stop from 60 mph in 107 feet.
