1965 Pontiac GTO Hardtop Fully Restored

The title reads GTO and as the owner was restoring the car everything added up to be a real GTO. The interior is original to the car. The GTO emblems looked to be as old as the car including the interior emblems. The Original GTO hood was maroon at the first painting as well as the rest of the car was maroon. The hood was replaced due to some rust on the leading edge. It was a GTO Hood and it was hiding 400Cui 1970 GTO Big Block w/ Ram Air mated to Muncie 4 Speed Manual Floor Shift M20 Transmission and 3.90 Ratio Limited Slip Rear End.

The sway bar measures 7/8″ which is correct for a real GTO. The fully Syncronized 4 speed would have been correct for the GTO this year. It is the nicest 1965 GTO Muscle Cars World have ever seen and the owner spared no expense restoring it back to excellent original GTO condition. The Pontiac Firebird was built by the Pontiac division of General Motors between 1967 and 2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year as the automaker’s platform-sharing model, the Chevrolet Camaro. This coincided with the release of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, which shared its platform with another pony car, the Ford Mustang.

The second generation debut for the 1970 model year was delayed until February 26, 1970, because of tooling and engineering problems. Replacing the “Coke bottle” styling was a more “swoopy” body style, with the top of the rear window line going almost straight down to the lip of the trunk lid. This look was to epitomize F-body styling for the longest period during the Firebird’s lifetime. The 1974 models featured a redesigned “shovel-nose” front end and new wide “slotted” taillights.
